Pair of custom oak front doors.
Layered mural is finished with color oil glazes.

The view is as startling as it is extraordinary. You simply don't expect it. Not that the clues aren't everywhere, hinting that this is an authentic custom home, and starting with the bridge that leads the visitor across to the oak front doors high above the steeply sloped site. But, once inside, it all happens. That view. It explodes in front of you through floor-to-ceiling glass across the Living and Dining Rooms. All of Lake Oswego, Oregon below, celebrated mountains in the distance... I won't even try to describe it here.

Once you've recovered from that bombshell of a view, you begin to notice the understated artwork applied to the fireplace -- and then finally, the layered mural appropriately titled "On Top Of The World” . The color oil glazing accentuates the depth of the layers, which in reality totals only a little over an inch. Subtle variances in the background color are achieved through the use of contrasting surface textures to break up the light. Winding up the starwell wall, the mural is lit naturally by clerestory windows at its zenith.

Alas, the fact remains, no artwork can compete with that view.

The top of the mural is lit by clerestory windows.
